We arrived at Gettysburg
around 6:00 p.m. It was a fairly good trip with the exception of one sad mishap
at the beginning – we were involved in a fatal accident. A squirrel ran across
the road and then after crossing the center-line in the road with a short dash
to freedom, decided to turn and scamper back. He didn’t make it. What do you
do? You can’t stop in the middle of the road and do a funeral / burial. I felt bad
for the little guy who looked up and the last he saw was a big blue beast coming
at him. May he rest in peace.
We started the trip with Mass
at St. Jerome’s Church with the kids. Funia waited outside, something about not
having been to confession in a while. Even
so, she posed for a picture with us after Mass. It’s like putting your envelope
in the collection basket -- documented proof that you went to church and the
photo proves it.
Ann won the debate for the
front seat. Funia rode quietly in the back until she heard her twin sister singing
on the radio:
Come on over-come on in
Pull up a seat-take a load off your feet
Come on over-come on in
You can unwind-take a
load off your mind
You should have heard the two
of them singing – Ann too. Things quieted down after that.
Of course, we stopped at the
Country Cupboard for lunch as usual, but Funia eats like a bird. They didn’t
even charge us for her.
The conference starts first
thing in the morning. It is great seeing all of my former colleagues again.
